The Cumnor Players

The arrival of September can mean only one thing for the Cumnor Players – it’s panto time (oh yes it is!). Performances of this year’s show will take place from Wednesday 9 to Saturday 12 December in the village hall. Tickets will be much better value than for the FIFA World Cup Final, the show will be far more entertaining, and we don’t expect to be gate-crashed by The Donald, so get those dates in your diary now. Tickets will go on sale in early November; details will be posted here and in Cumnor Parish News.

Believe it or not, this is the twentieth year of the Cumnor Panto and we are revisiting the world of Cinderella, first performed here in 2007 and now with an updated contemporary script. We have everything you would expect from a family pantomime with plenty of corny jokes, fabulous costumes, a poor downtrodden Cinders, her fairy godmother, a wicked stepmother, and of course quite possibly the ugliest sisters in the world.

The talented cast will be starting rehearsals in September, while the equally talented crew grapple with the challenge of transforming a pumpkin into a stagecoach and mice into horses.

Audiences can expect something for everyone, with a traditional story that children will love and a sprinkling of, ahem, more “sophisticated” humour for the grown-ups. Add in some great live music with toe-tapping numbers played by our amazing band, and it promises to be a great afternoon or evening’s entertainment. For the regular afficionados, there might be the occasional recycled in-joke, and of course there will be ice-cream at the interval.

It promises to be a fantastic celebration of the depth and diversity of talent to be found in our village community – don’t miss it!
