Update from the Director's Chair: September 2009
Rehearsals for Snow White and the Seven Dwarves are well and truly underway. This year we have managed to secure the village hall – where dreams come true – for most of our rehearsals and this is really helping everyone get a feel for the final show. As director I am awed and delighted at how well everyone has studied Ian Bannerman’s magnificent script and how the characters are really taking shape, even at this early stage. I sense a growing competition among the cast for who will be the first to put down the script and go for it.
The work of the committee and the legions of panto volunteers is also moving along nicely: the music, dancing, stage design, construction, costumes, financing, technical, sponsorship, ticketing, bar, web-site, seating, make-up, sound, …….so many things that make up a successful and enjoyable Cumnor players pantomime.
There’s a nip in the air, and the nights are fair drawing in, so what more could you want than to be messing about on stage of a Tuesday evening, keeping a fine tradition alive and kicking for another year. More from me in the next few weeks...
Update from the Director's Chair: July 2009
We held a well-attended, minutely-planned and massively enjoyable casting afternoon on Sunday 14th June. Nearly 50 people, adults and children, braved the judging eyes of the panel. It was fantastic to have so many excellent performers to choose from; it was painful to have to decide who to select and who to omit. Thank you to all who came and made our job so difficult.
The script is finished. We have our cast in place, our band plugging in their amps and our chorus raring to get started. The set team have produced a model in miniature of the stage, the musical director is honing her (long) list of potential numbers, musing over the forces at her disposal. Excitement is at fever pitch.
BUT Curses! it is summer, and we must endure a 6-week break before we all begin the mad dash to performance-time in December...
